While Barbie received eight nominations at this year’s Academy Awards, many felt the film was overlooked in two major categories: Best Actress and Best Director. The Oscars snubs have sparked a major discussion about the movie online. Although fans are outraged over Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig not receiving their flowers, the Birds of Prey star had a very different response to the Oscars nominations.
Margot Robbie Isn’t “Sad” Over Best Actress Oscars Snub
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Robbie attended a SAG panel during which she broke her silence on not being nominated for Best Actress at the 2024 Oscars. Despite all of the commotion her snub has caused online, the star said she isn’t sweating it. In fact, it’s only made her realize how much people love the film.
There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.

While she isn’t upset over her Best Actress snub, she does agree that Gerwig should have been nominated for Best Director since “what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing.” Robbie appears to credit the Barbie snubs over there being so much competition at the Oscars since 2023 was “an incredible year for all the films.”
On the bright side, Robbie did score one nomination for Barbie. As a producer for the film, the star was recognized in the Best Picture category. Gerwig also received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for co-writing the Barbie script alongside Noah Baumbach. Other Oscar nominations for the film include Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Original Song. Ryan Gosling is also up for Best Supporting Actor, while America Ferrera is competing for Best Supporting Actress.
The Amsterdam actress called the eight nominations for Barbie “incredible.” She said they’re proof that the film has had a huge “impact” on today’s culture.
[It’s] truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.
