U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn has dodged the Taylor Swift controversy by brushing off the singer’s insult like water off a duck’s back. Swift found a permanent home in the media spotlight due to her public relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whom she began dating in 2023. Amidst the rampant conspiracy theories targeting the 34-year-old, Blackburn has forgiven Swift’s transgressions.
Marsha Blackburn, the U.S. Senior Senator from Tennessee, was first elected to the Senate in 2018. Blackburn, who is aligned with the Republican party, served as state senator from 1999 to 2003. She went on to represent Tennessee’s 7th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2003 to 2019.
Back in 2020, during her first-ever documentary titled Miss Americana, Swift likened Blackburn to “Donald Trump in a wig.”
In light of the above-mentioned comment and Swift’s overpowering presence in the media, Blackburn joined Newsmax’s Sharla McBride and Rob Finnerty to give her own analogy of the ongoing feud between Donald Trump’s MAGA movement and Swift’s integrity.
As Mediaite reports, Finnerty wasted no time in addressing the elephant in the room.
“Senator, I want to ask you about Taylor Swift. So she spends a whole lot of time in your home state of Tennessee, even though she was born in Mississippi. Newsweek had a poll yesterday that found that 18% of voters would actually vote for whoever Taylor Swift told them to vote for. In 2020, in a documentary, she said that you were ‘ Donald Trump in a wig.’ How do you respond to that, and what’s your take on the impact she could have in November?”
Blackburn responded by heaping praise onto Swift, despite the “Cruel Summer” singer comparing her unfavorably to one of history’s most sanctimonious dictators. She didn’t seem to mind, however, as her biggest priority is combating the Democratic view on Biden’s border policy.
“Taylor Swift is really a popular, very talented young woman. She has built quite an empire. I am so, so thrilled that she has chosen to base that in Nashville. She is considered to be an influencer. I think when it comes to elections, people look at the issues that are important to them and they make their decisions. Right now, we know that the border, the open border, the Biden border policy, that is something at the top of the list for so many people. Certainly in Tennessee, the border is issue number one.”
McBride couldn’t help but chime in and press Blackburn as to whether the divisive comment affected her all that much.
“I just shake it off,” Blackburn said. Naturally, as the Representative for the state of Tennessee since 2019, she has likely endured far worse criticisms within the political sphere.
Travis Kelce is under fire from right-wing believers for cutting a Pfizer commercial. Ever since, Swift has been at the center of wild allegations, such as those labeling her a Pentagon asset and even claiming that the upcoming Super Bowl is rigged to boost Swift’s popularity ahead of Biden’s endorsement.
