Jay-Z’s recent Grammy comments on Beyonce never receiving the prestigious Album of the Year Award was one of the major highlights at the 2024 Grammys. The rap icon pointed out the oversight on stage while accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Although Jay Z’s comments sparked controversy, some celebrities clearly agreed with the star. Singer Kelly Rowland even lauded the 54-year-old while emphasizing how talented Jay-Z and Beyonce were.
Inside Jay-Z’s Grammy Comments
Jay-Z and Beyonce’s consistency in the music industry has earned them 88 Grammy nominations each — the most in history. However, despite the record-breaking nominations and winning 32 Grammys, Beyonce is yet to bag the coveted prize for Album of the Year. This oversight prompted Jay-Z to speak up at the Grammys on Monday while accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.
“Obviously it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion-based, but some things…I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year,” Jay-Z said while standing next to daughter, Blue Ivy.
The rapper further asked the audience and Recording Academy to think about it, noting that it made zero sense.
“The most Grammys never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work. We want y’all to get it right. We love y’all, we love y’all, we just want y’all to get it right. At least get it close to right,” he concluded.
Kelly Rowland Praises Jay-Z Over His Grammy Comments
Members of the audience loudly applauded Jay Z’s comments. Even after the event, many spoke highly of him. At the Bob Marley: One Love premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Rowland shared her thoughts on Jay-Z’s speech. She began by praising the icon, describing him as the greatest man she knew.
“His words ring so loud to me. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” she added.
The singer went ahead to express her happiness about Jay-Z’s Grammy comments. According to her, it probably made a lot of artists feel seen and heard. Furthermore, the 42-year-old credited her friend, Beyonce, sharing that the singer’s albums spoke for themselves.
“She is innovative, her thoughts are big and bright and she just jumps for them and does it. I think that her albums are a reflection of that, and it should be really celebrated in that way,” Rowland emphasized.
Furthermore, Rowland explained that her comments weren’t because Beyonce was her sister but because she put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into her work. Jay-Z caused a stir with his Grammy comments, which sparked a debate and could lead to more people voicing their opinion about the Grammys.
