If Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s Vyrn Doesn’t Shut Up About Apples, I’ll Freak Out

A moment of silence is all I ask.

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

One of the biggest complaints I have about Cygames’ latest entry doesn’t pertain to its gameplay. Recently, while playing Granblue Fantasy: Relink, I noticed there’s been a bit too much of Vyrn, even to my liking, and that makes me wonder how new players might take it. Since this is the first approach to the series for many, having this cute character around at all times might be counterproductive. Also, since comparisons are bound to happen, Cygames didn’t copy HoYoverse in trying to make a Paimon-like character. Vyrn has been around for way longer than Genshin Impact‘s emergency food.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink Players Would Like Vyrn to Take it Down a Notch

As someone who’s played the gacha, fighting, and now Action-RPG of the series, I can tell you that Cygames did Vyrn dirty by not giving him time to shine as a character as in its previous entries. I sometimes feel like Gabe from The Office screaming, “Shut up about the sun, shut up about the sun,” but switching sun for apples. Even as someone who loves the flying guy, he can get a bit annoying after you hear the same line over and over, so maybe an option to mute him or at least reduce his interactions could be good.

While I love the Dragon due to his story and background in the gacha game, he really needs to keep quiet at times, especially for new players. Lately, some games have released features to let you reduce the frequency of a narrator’s voice or the option to shut them up entirely. Personally, I think this would be a fantastic option that would even help Vyrn’s reputation in Granblue Fantasy: Relink.

If you’re a new player, I’d recommend you play the gacha game or at least watch the anime. I think the hate toward Vyrn is a bit unfounded, but again, I understand it. After handing in some optional quests or fighting certain bosses, I get tired of hearing the guy. I’d rather have someone else cheer for me, which is something that Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising lets you do. If Cygames translates this system to its new ARPG, it’d be fantastic.

Sadly, the game didn’t give room for characters to shine. Rolan, Id, and others, who are new, took the spotlight, and it is great. But for someone who is experiencing the series for the first time, I believe there should be something more besides Fate Episodes to get to know the cast. Thankfully, the developers have plans for this entry, so let’s hope we get to see more story content down the road.
