Doctor Doom is getting his very own Marvel one-shot this May from writer Jonathan Hickman. The issue, aptly called Doom #1, brings Hickman together with artist Sanford Greene. Together, the creative duo will bring Doom’s “final journey” to life as he faces off against Galactus. According to the publisher, the battle between these two villains will be “universe-shattering.” However, it will show the world why Doctor Doom is such an iconic character and one not to be messed with.
Doctor Doom Versus Galactus
According to Marvel, Doom #1 takes place in the near future. Everything rests on Doctor Doom’s shoulders as he tries to save the Marvel Universe. The iconic villain is on a journey unlike any he has been on before. Together with Valeria Richards, Doom is on a quest to harness more power than any human has ever held. All in the hopes of stopping Galactus from destroying the universe.
It seems Marvel is attempting to resurrect its “The End” line of comic stories. These featured limited series and one-shots that offered a potential “end” for some of Marvel’s most iconic characters. Perhaps this universally large showdown is just one option for Doctor Doom to meet his end in the Marvel Universe. Or perhaps it is teeing up something much larger for the future of Marvel Comics. After all, the X-Men are currently undergoing a major metamorphosis, and with Hickman at the helm, nothing is off the table.
Dynamic Duo
Speaking about Doom #1, artist Sanford Greene admits he has always been fascinated by Doctor Doom. Specifically, how the villain is potentially at the very heart of the entire Marvel Universe. Therefore, this one-shot is a love letter of sorts to Doom and Marvel from the artist.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Hickman is eager to work alongside Greene and jumped at the chance to collaborate on this one-shot. It is a giant-sized issue for a giant-sized character and one that will surely surprise and satisfy Marvel fans.
