While DC hasn’t found its footing in movies, it’s dominating the TV scene. Powerless is the newest in their lineup and is rather different.

Powerless follows the people on the ground rather than the superheroes and villains. The show’s original synopsis had the protagonists working for an insurance company that specializes in super-damages. Following the departure of showrunner Ben Queen, the show underwent a rather large retool.

The new synopsis is as follows;

“In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.”

And now, we have a brief trailer to give us a taste of what’s to come;

As a result of the new setting fans will no doubt be asking some questions. And one of those questions is probably ‘will Batman be making an appearance. Relocating the cast to Wayne Enterprises probably isn’t going to raise the odds of the Dark Knight appearing. It seems like it was chosen for being the go-to mega corp of the DCU rather than foreshadowing. And that’s a good thing, to be honest. The focus of the show is the ‘Powerless‘ rather than the high-tech vigilantes. Hopefully, the show will rely on solid story and characters rather than cameos by DC’s big heroes.
