It appears that the divorce proceedings for Hollywood’s former dynamic duo might be further from a conclusion than originally expected. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were the entertainment industry’s favorite ‘it’ couple for 12 years — dubbed ‘Brangelina’ by the media — and went on to have six children before their eventual engagement in 2012.
However, a friend of Brad’s told NewsNation Now in August 2023 that Angelina “is going to drag this [custody battle] out until the twins [now 14] turn 18…4 more years.” The twins in question are Knox and Vivienne. Jolie and Pitt also share Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and Pax.
Pitt and Jolie’s Messy Divorce
Jolie and Pitt married in 2014 and after just two years of marriage, filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.” Some messy divorce proceedings dragged a few incidents to the light. Pitt sued Jolie for selling her share of a winery they co-owned to a third party. Meanwhile, Jolie countersued and alleged that Pitt both physically and verbally abused her and their children on a private plane in 2016.
Jolie filed a $250M countersuit against ex-husband Brad for trying to “seize control” of the French winery they bought in 2008. In retaliation, Brad pulled legal documents that claimed Angelina broke the rules of their original agreement and “vindictively” sold her share of the $30M French winery rub salt in the wound that is their custody battle.
Jolie denounced Brad’s claims to have “built” their wine business, saying he merely “visited the vineyards to admire the work of the French laborers who did the business.”
The custody battle will decide the fate of their twins, Knox and Vivienne, as they are the last remaining children under legal age. Even 17-year-old Shiloh barely factors in, given that the custody battle will continue well after her 18th birthday.
The divorce proceedings have come to a stand-still lately with no new developments in at least a few years. However, according to court documents obtained by TMZ, both Pitt and Jolie are serving their final financial disclosures on the other party. This could indicate that the divorce will be finalized soon.
