All you sweet summer children who live and breathe for Game of Thrones, I am sad to say that Winter is coming. According to one of the show’s stars, the final season of the popular HBO show will begin filming in September. I’ll give you a minute or two to accept the inevitable before continuing on. Are we ready?
In an interview on the red carpet of this year’s Golden Globes, Liam Cunningham (Sir Davos, The Onion Knight) said they were about finished filming the 7 episodes for the season set to release this spring/summer. He then continued on to say that they will begin filming the final 6 episodes of Game of Thrones in September. The rumors of a shorter final season have been circulating for awhile now and HBO has yet to confirm or deny this rumor. So, at least, according to Davos, we’re promised 6 episodes! Also, we can all sleep well knowing that The Onion Knight survives season 7 and into season 8. The Game of Thrones rumor mill isn’t done yet; the possibility of a prequel or spin-off series is pretty likely.

Despite the shorter seasons, the cast and crew are putting in the same amount of time into this season as they would for the 10 episode seasons. Needless to say, these episodes are going to be pretty amazing. The 7th season is set to release a little later so they could utilize the winter for shooting, because as promised since episode 1, Winter is finally coming to Westeros.
Aside from finally getting to see who will take the Iron Throne, the new season will feature lots of new characters and new faces.
