The former NBC sports broadcaster, during his appearance on CNN‘s Smerconish on Saturday, took a scornful stab at Trump and his supporters. He described the former POTUS as the most disgraceful figure in modern history who has become more so since 2016 and since 2020. He also described Trump as “a bubbling cauldron of Loathsome traits.” The Republican Presidential candidate’s supporters were not spared. Costas described them as being in a “toxic cult” to think Trump was suitable to become president.

Bob Costas’ comment against Donald Trump has since received mixed reactions across media platforms, sparking a delicate debate. On one end are anti-Trumpers who couldn’t agree more with Costas’ opinion. Many have turned to various social media platforms to stand behind the sportscaster. One X user wrote,

While the sports analyst no doubt was entitled to his opinion about a presidential aspirant, going about it with such insulting terms on national TV can pass for a lowly move. Even worse, he dragged into the mix, over 75 million Americans rallying behind Trump to exercise their right to vote. There’s only one way that could have ended; with many wounded Trump supporters taking to media platforms to fire back at him, completely disregarding whatever “great” point he hoped to drive home.
