Part of making every Age of Wonders 4 match engaging relies on unlocking tomes, and thankfully, Primal Fury debuted two new ones. Given the nature aspect of the DLC, these magic books offer players many options to live their druidic fantasies. However, like other powerful grimoires in the game, players must reach the right affinity, research certain spells, and, most importantly, stay alive before looking at these brand-new tomes.

Unlocking New Tomes in Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury – Explained

Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury introduces two new tomes: Tome of Fey Mists and Tome of the Stormborne. Both are great to have if you have the right culture and plan to carve your way through land or sea toward your enemies. While we feel one is much better than the other, unlocking both doesn’t hurt and provides players with many gameplay opportunities to spice up their match.

The Tome of Fey Mists is the first one you’ll unlock, as it is Tier II. For this, you only need to stick to a culture with nature affinity or start raising it as soon as the match begins. This one is easy to obtain; all you need to do is research at least two tomes to unlock Tier II books. Personally, we feel this one is the best of the tomes in Primal Fury due to its new unit and protective mists. However, those eager to rule the seas or flood the map might want something else.

The second tome in Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury is the Tome of the Stormborne, a Tier IV book. This one will take a bit more to unlock but pairs perfectly with the abovementioned one if that’s the gameplay you’re aiming for. Here’s what you need to do to get it:

  1. If possible, start with a nature-aligned culture.
  2. If you chose a different starting affinity, start unlocking Nature and Astral tomes until you reach six affinity points on each. You can also recruit heroes to raise your affinity.
  3. Once you research enough spells and choose six tomes, the Tome of Stormborne will appear.

The big selling point of this grimoire is the new Naga Form, which is a Major Race Transformation. It provides many bonuses for units while on the sea while also letting you bring a deluge to the map. While fun, this might be a bit more situational, but entertaining to use nonetheless.

If we had to pick any of the new tomes of Age of Wonders 4: Primal Fury, we’d go for the Fey Mists ones. While they don’t conflict with each other, we feel this one adapts faster to any situation. But the magic of this game relies on experimentation and wacky combinations, so don’t be afraid to get both and rule the land and sea with these new tomes.
