AVALANCHE’s eco-terrorist battle against Shinra for the fate of the planet is one reason many players rank Final Fantasy 7 as their favorite game in the series. That said, it’s far from the only one, considering just how much there was to do in it. Like the original, Rebirth packs in a ton of content, featuring fights, minigames, collectibles, and emotional story beats, all before you even leave Midgar. Rebirth expands the remake’s adventures even further as Cloud journeys beyond the dystopian metropolis, but do the credits spell the end of his journey, at least for now? Does Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have New Game Plus?
New Game Plus in Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth brings a wealth of amazing content to the table, including two options that are basically New Game Plus, although they aren’t called that. When you beat the game for the first time you unlock Chapter Select and Hard Mode. The former allows you to replay any chapter you want from the beginning while bringing along any levels and gear you’ve already acquired. That’s exactly what you’d expect from a classic NG+ option. You can even choose whether or not to keep your quest progression. That’s great if you feel like doing everything from scratch again.
The addition of Hard Mode adds another layer to the New Game Plus experience in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. When you select a chapter to revisit, you’ll have the option of activating this mode. Doing so makes the game more challenging in a couple of ways. In addition to disabling items, it also restricts rest spots to only recovering HP. The combo of Hard Mode and Chapter Select means you can relive your favorite Rebirth moments in whatever order and at whatever difficulty you want. It might not be called NG+, but this is a proper post-game experience.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available for PlayStation 5.
