It’s time, people. After a long wait, the next installment in the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy is here, and with it come many changes. One of the most prominent ones is its open world. Leaving the semi-linear levels of Remake, Rebirth opts for a bigger and better world for us to explore. However, like many other games with similar systems, players wonder if they’ll start steamrolling enemies left and right. Well, that’s where Dynamic Difficulty and Enemy Scaling come into play in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Since you’ll be exploring bigger maps in this installment, you’ll likely run into old enemies and have to face them again. This can be good or bad. Good if you want to farm materials or get experience fast, and bad if you feel battles are getting trivial. Thankfully, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth implements Dynamic Difficulty and Enemy Scaling systems. By activating them, lower-level enemies will scale up to your level. This means that fights will remain challenging instead of becoming trivial. This is fantastic for those who want to try specific character builds or use other party members before putting them against a boss.

This is a great system we feel other open-world RPGs should implement. Since you can toggle it, you can tailor your adventure as you progress through it. If you are annoyed about fighting several enemies over and over at the same level, turn the option off and take them down with one hit. Still, we recommend leaving this feature on as it provides a steady challenge during the game’s long campaign and in certain optional objectives.
