Millie Bobby Brown‘s recent interview on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has gone viral. On Thursday, Feb. 29, the star appeared on the show to discuss her upcoming Netflix film Damsel, as well as her engagement to Jake Bongiovi. While she was talking, fans couldn’t help but get distracted by her accent, which has seemingly gone from British to American.
Did Millie Bobby Brown Lose Her British Accent?
Over the course of the 10-minute interview, fans noticed that Brown’s British accent had almost entirely disappeared. While the actress still said certain words like “can’t” with an English inflection, Brown has clearly begun sounding more American. One fan even thought she spoke like a “rich valley girl” now. Just hear Brown for yourself in the video below.
Although Brown was born in Spain, she grew up with British parents and spent her early childhood living in Bournemouth, England. Her family eventually relocated to Orlando, Florida, when she was eight. Despite the move, Brown retained her British accent. It was so strong that Brown previously revealed on the Tonight Show that she had to watch episodes of Hannah Montana to help her sound more American for her various acting roles.
However, it seems that somewhere along the way, Brown had naturally begun to lose her British accent. The change may partially be due to her having spent so many years speaking with an American accent in Stranger Things. Her environment could also be a factor since Brown has been residing in the United States for over a decade now. Not to mention, she may have picked up American words and phrases from being around her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi. The actor, who is the son of singer Jon Bon Jovi, grew up in New Jersey.
Brown and Bongiovi began dating in 2021. After spending two years together, the couple announced their engagement in April 2023.
