Stuck in a Rut was one of my favorite quests in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. In Junon, you can find a Chocobo Ranch called Gabe’s Ranch with an interesting quest attached to it: Stuck in a Rut. It’s incredibly easy to miss this quest, especially if you’ve already beaten the game without unlocking it. Make sure you head on over to the noticeboard in Under Junon and select it if you already haven’t. Then, come back and check out how to complete Stuck in a Rut in FF7 Rebirth.

Stuck in a Rut can also be started by heading over to Gabe’s Ranch, as indicated by the above map. Gabe’s Chocobo carriage is out of order and the only person who can fix it is the wainright who, coincidentally, is not in the area. Before starting, it would be in your best interest to get the region’s Chocobo, Belle. There are a total of six parts to this quest, with the second being to get Belle. I wrote out a whole guide on how to get each region’s Chocobo, so take a look at that if you need to before following the next four steps:

1

Take Belle Up the Mountain

Using Belle, climb up the mountain by where Divine Intel 1 is to find Wainwright’s Hut. Here, you’ll find the

Gather Materials

The wainwright will give Cloud a map of three places where him and the gang can find dried driftwood. You can use your Chocobo to sniff around the area when you reach any of the spots listed on the map above. On Chocoback, walk around the area until you see a blue question mark appear about your head. When that happens, press up on the D-Pad to sniff out where the driftwood could be. Once you find it, press the down on the D-Pad to dig it up! As a side note, you only need one set of driftwood, not all three.

3

Return To the Wainwright

Return any driftwood you find to the wainwright. In exchange, he’ll use them to create parts for Gabe’s broken carriage.

4

Return to Gabe

With the carriage parts in hand, go back to Gabe at his ranch. Tell him that you have new parts on you, and he’ll be ecstatic to know that he can return to his delivery service.

Once you’ve completed the quest, you’ll have access to the Chocobo Carriage there and at any ranch in the game. For a fee of 300 gil, you can go between the Grasslands and Junon without having to head into the mines. Once you unlock fast travel to Costa del Sol, you’ll also be able to use the Chocobo Carriage to somehow cross the ocean to go there.

Stuck in a Rut Rewards

For finishing Stuck in a Rut, you get:

  • Access to the Chocobo Carriage in Gabe’s Ranch and Bill’s Ranch.
  • A relationship boost with Aerith.
  • One Queensguard Bangle.
  • EXP for the party.
  • EXP for Cloud.
  • Ten pieces of Mellow Oak.
  • Ten pieces of Condo Cedar.
