Bungie’s finally given us a sneak peek at Destiny 2‘s upcoming Into the Light event by way of the first developer livestream. We get a look into Onslaught, a whole new activity coming to Destiny 2. Throughout the livestream, we get quite a bit of new information surrounding the new things that will come along with Into the Light on April 9th, 2024 as we prepare for The Final Shape.
Devs Claim Into The Light’s Onslaught Can’t Be Won Solo
Onslaught is a whole new activity that features defensive playstyles rather than the usual offensive ones we experience. While this is something entirely new to Destiny 2, Onslaught looks like it might be just the thing Bungie needs to keep Guardians prepared for the additional challenges we’ll face with the Witness later on this year when The Final Shape releases.
Onslaught takes Guardians into a type of tower defense game mode in which players will protect the ADU, all while setting up useful turrets, tripwires, and more to help on their journey. This game mode will come in different form, each of them in a wave-based structure that allows Guardians to collect rewards at the end of every 10 waves of enemies. Enemies will come at you in large hordes, with increasing difficulty for each passing wave. Throughout each wave, you’ll earn Scraps, Onslaught-specific currency, to upgrade your defensive stations, through defeating enemies and healing the ADU.
Overall, Destiny 2‘s Onslaught has certain similarities, as well as differences from other games’ defensive modes, like Defense missions in Warframe. Onslaught will be a new game mode, like Crucible, Gambit, or Vanguard, and will stick around for good once it’s introduced on April 9th. I think the idea is strong, and it will produce great results, along with all the other new and interesting additions coming with Into the Light.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
