If you’re ready to return home after spelunking a curious cave or routing rapacious robbers, walking isn’t always ideal. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, there are several attractive options for players to fast travel such as via Oxcart or Ferrystone. However, the game doesn’t hold your hand in adding this mechanic, with several methods having pros and cons.

How to Fast Travel Between Towns in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The most reliable way to travel between towns fast in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is via Oxcart. However, some locations, such as Vernworth, are large cities with a Portcrystal you can unlock, allowing you to use Ferrystones to travel to them instantly. I’ll go over the pros and cons of each option, as they present a dynamic choice players will need to make in the game.

Check any portion of the area’s map for an ox icon for the Oxcart, where you can fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. These vehicles use a fixed path, with the driver telling you which town it has for its destination. If there’s no cart, go to the post nearby and hold the action button (‘B’ or ‘Circle) to wait for one to arrive. Climb into the cab at the back and sit on the red cloth portion and you’ll be prompted to pay the tiny fee (~200 Gold).

After this, you can wait for the extremely slow oxcart to reach your destination, or you can hit ‘Y’ or Triangle to doze off. This brings you instantly to your destination but occasionally gets interrupted if a monster attacks you on your journey. Think of it as a random encounter.

Pros
  • Oxcarts are dirt-cheap and offer the most options for fast travel.
  • You can enjoy the scenic route on the cart if you don’t doze off, and hop off if points of interest appear along the way.
Cons
  • You have to pick the right Oxcart in town, and this means either checking the map for its possible routes or manually approaching the driver to ask where it’s going.
  • Oxcarts are susceptible to damage, overturning, or destruction.
  • You won’t always have interruptions on your rides but they happen often.

Generally, Oxcarts are the more flexible option but overall will slow you down as you seek their stations.

Once you find and activate a Portcrystal (resembling a glowing purple spiral or rocky canelé) in large cities, use a Ferrystone from your inventory to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can buy Ferrystones at item shops (potion bottle icon) in practically any town or city. This brings you to the game’s map along with listed options for Ferrystone instant travel. This brings you straight to the Portcrystal you choose.

Pros
  • Ferrystones offer the fastest mode of travel in the game.
  • This can save oodles of time and multiple Oxcart rides when you want to get back to a hub city.
  • You can find Portcrystals in extremely rare cases like Griffin nests too, and place them where you need them.
Cons
  • Ferrystones are often extremely expensive, running upwards of 8000-10000 Gold apiece.
  • Portcrystals are far less common in cities than Oxcarts and are practically nonexistent around most of the map.

Of the two, Oxcarts are the overall practical winner for best fast travel method in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you received Ferrystones as a quest reward, do not sell them, they’re super handy.

Beyond these options, don’t forget you can still get creative while seeking vehicles from Point A to Point B. You can technically mount a griffin as it takes flight, for instance, but you must account for fall damage. It won’t always land for you the way you might like.
