How to Knock Down Ladders in Dragon’s Dogma 2

I cannot jump the distance. You’ll have to toss me.

One of the most enticing parts about open world Action-RPGs is the breadth of options for reaching inaccessible spots. This may include locked doors, obscured cave entrances, or curiously unused/retracted rope ladders. Knowing how to knock down ladders in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can occasionally be a puzzle for players and pawns.

Dragons Dogma 2 = GOTY

If you’ve crossed a chasm already and want to send down a nearby ladder for pawns to climb, hold ‘B’ or ‘Circle’ near it. This sends the ladder down. If you see the ladder and haven’t reached it, there are several options depending on the distance between you and the ladder:

  • Get a running start and try to catch the ledge in question via jumping. This might require you to hold R2/RT in midair.
  • As magick classes like Mage or Sorcerers, use Levitate (double-tap ‘A’ or ‘X’) to cross.
  • If you have the Mystic Spearhand vocation, use Dragoun’s Foin to cross long distances in midair instantly.

This helps close the literal gap for players daunted by these chasms with a clear path ahead for their pawns to follow suit.

This mechanic is hilarious but lets you unleash your inner bully for mutual gain along with pawns. Walk up to a pawn, press ‘R2’ or ‘RT’, and then hold ‘R1’ or ‘RB’ to aim and subsequently hurl them across a chasm. This works and has even been amusingly demonstrated by our team:

If you use a pawn you’ve borrowed from the rift, consider a generous gift as compensation for chucking them like a lawn dart. If it’s your pawn, it could be a bonding moment, raising affection that’s useful when solving a sphinx riddle. But this is an example of weaponizing the game’s jank in your favor, and it’s frankly awesome to see.
