After her shocking cancer diagnosis became public knowledge, Kate Middleton’s whereabouts were no longer an international mystery. But although the circumstances under which she was absent explained a lot, it simultaneously made her return date to regular royal duties more ambiguous than ever.
While it was initially thought that the Princess of Wales would be back in action shortly after Easter, her unexpected cancer diagnosis caused further setbacks. It is now believed she may not be an active royal once more until mid-April. Now, Middleton’s return is solely at the discretion of the doctors caring for her.
An Insider Says Kate “May Join In” On Events
A Palace insider told People that the princess “may join in” on events from time to time amid her chemotherapy treatment. The source made it clear that Middleton’s presence “would not necessarily signal a return to royal duties,” as she works towards a swift and full recovery.
“She has the inner strength, the support of her husband and her extraordinary family, so she can focus on what’s important, which is her getting back to strength,” Ailsa Anderson, a former spokeswoman for Queen Elizabeth, told People exclusively.
“[The royal family] is vulnerable at the moment, and there will be an even greater appreciation that they are human beings with frailties like the rest of us,” a Palace aide said. “They are so dedicated to their roles. I think you will find when Kate makes a full recovery, she will come back even more passionate.”
The Princess of Wales May Be At Odds With Meghan Markle
If she does return to a relative normal, Kate Middleton may find herself as odds with Meghan Markle (not that she isn’t already), especially after the comments made by her uncle, Gary Goldsmith, on Celebrity Big Brother and particularly in an interview with The Times shortly after his eviction from the show.

“At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” the Princess of Wales said in a heartfelt video message. “The surgery was successful, however tests after the operation found cancer had been present.
