Yoshi-P and his team graced everyone in 2024 with the debut of the FFXIV x FFXVI crossover event. For those who didn’t know, Square Enix brought parts of the sixteenth mainline entry of the RPG series to its legendary MMO. Even if it’s short, it is a fantastic event that fans of both games should try. It’s full of fan service moments, great callbacks to Valisthea and Clive’s adventure, and even a few details about the MMO’s 1.0 version.
How To Complete the FFXIV x FFXVI Crossover Event
The FFXIV x FFXVI crossover event in the MMO is available to anyone who’s reached level 50 and completed the ‘The Ultimate Weapon’ main scenario quest. You can check our list of all the MSQ missions to see how far or close you are to reaching said mission. If you meet the requirements, you must head to Ul’Dah and speak with the Neophyte Adventurer in the place shown below.
After a short cutscene and the arrival of the beloved Wandering Minstrel, you must help him think about the place his “prophecy” is talking about. The place you must choose is the Burning Wall, which is close to Camp Drybone. After choosing the right location, teleport to Camp Drybone and travel to the quest marker.
Once at the location, you’ll talk to the Wandering Minstrel once more and begin an interactable cutscene. You must use your cursor to find Clive on the ground. For references, use the image below.
If you’re having trouble finding Clive, as soon as the interactable cutscene begins, move your cursor all the way down, and you’ll spot him.
A Stroll With a Dominant
After helping Clive get off the ground, you’ll take him to Ul’Dah, where he’ll recover. After other cutscenes, the next part of the FFXVI x FFXVI crossover event will begin. During this quest, you must take Clive to different places in Gridania. They aren’t hard to find, and you must follow the quest markers until you reach the spots. Remember, if you lose Clive or teleport somewhere else, you must fetch him from where you started the quest.
After interacting with all the spots, you must speak to Kan-E-Senna. You don’t have to do anything here other than listen to her speak about Garuda. After a few dialogues, the Wandering Minstrel will arrive with a solution. Since Clive’s memories are jumbled, the only way to recover them is by facing the truth. Since the truth seems to come out every time Clive hears “Garuda” and especially “Ifrit,” the only option is to do some Primal or Eikon pummeling.
Ifrit’s Fight
Once you listen to the Wandering Minstrel’s plan, you must enter a solo instance to face Ifrit alongside Clive. The fight isn’t difficult, and you’ll get special actions inspired by FFXVI. Once you decide to enter, your item level will be synced to 110 and your character level to 50. Watch the fiery cutscene, and the fight will begin.
Using Your New Job Actions
You’ll get two new event-exclusive actions for this fight:
- Rising Flames: Does damage to an enemy with a 20-second cooldown.
- Dodge: Allows you to dodge an enemy’s attack. When timed right, the action will turn into ‘Precision Strike’ and allow you to deliver a powerful counterattack.
Since this event takes inspiration from the action RPG, you’ll get an indicator whenever an enemy is about to attack. When you see the squares with one and two dots, press Dodge when the square with one dot appears to trigger a timed dodge. Other than that, the fight plays like any other instance in the game.
First Phase
The first phase is quite simple, and it works as a tutorial to teach you about the event’s exclusive actions. I recommend pressing ‘Dodge’ when the shining icon appears or when the countdown reaches ‘one.’ Most of Ifrit’s abilities are easy to dodge, and you’ll see any of the following:
- Vulcan Burst: Deals AoE damage to the entire arena. Must use Dodge to evade it.
- Spread AoE Attack: You’ll get an orange marker above you and a circle-shaped indicator. You must move away from Clive and press Dodge to evade the attack.
- Spreading Fire: Ifrit will cast three AoE attacks shaped like donuts. It’ll begin in the center, then at the middle, and finally at the edge of the arena. You can dodge these attacks by waiting for the first AoE to go off and run into the center below Ifrit to avoid the other two. No need to press Dodge for this move.
- Smoldering Claw: Cone-shaped AoE that will always target Clive. You can ignore this attack and keep hitting Ifrit.
- Fireball: Ifrit will spawn four circles that will fill up slowly. You must run away from them before they go off. You can use Dodge here; however, it won’t have an indicator, so you must time your button press with the circle’s progress.
- Crimson Rush: Ifrit will charge in your direction once the cast goes off. Move away from the marker to avoid the attack.
- Tail Strike: Ifrit will raise its tail to attack in your direction. Run to the small spot that doesn’t have a marker to avoid this move.
- Pyrosault: Ifrit will begin charging an AoE attack with proximity. Run away from the impact spot and prepare to hit Dodge if necessary.
Second Phase
The second phase of this FFXIV x FFXVI crossover event fight will begin once Clive mentions Ifrit’s flames are growing stronger. In it, Ifrit will repeat most moves and add the following:
- Crimson Streak: Ifrit will charge four times across the arena. The only way to avoid this is by memorizing its pattern and finding a safe spot once it finishes charging. I picked a spot during the first pattern as it’s the first one to go off.
- Fetters: Ifrit will hold down Clive, and you must head to the spot in the arena to trigger an active time maneuver. You must mash the button on the screen to spot Ifrit’s attack.
Ifrit will repeat all moves from phase one, but faster and in different combinations. Once you see the Infernal Howl attack go off, the final phase will begin.
Final Phase
The final phase will begin with another active time maneuver, the same moves from phase one, and new gimmicks:
- Infernal Aether: Ifrit will spawn four Infernal Swords you must destroy before the Infernal Aether gauge fills. At the same time, AoE attacks will go off where the swords are, so you must use Dodge to evade them and keep hitting the swords.
- Fiery Rampage: This four-move attack will begin with Ifrit swiping to its right, then left, followed by a circle AoE, and end with an arena-wide AoE attack. Save your Dodge for the last two moves. There’s another variant of Fiery Rampage that spawns AoE attacks where Ifrit isn’t swiping. Avoid and use Dodge at your discretion.
Once Ifrit’s HP reaches zero percent, you’ll get a fantastic cutscene and finish this solo instance.

Furthermore, any job can use these rewards, so don’t be afraid to set up some new glamour plates to show off your armor from Valisthea.
