He backed Joe Bidenโ€”the Democratic candidateโ€”for the 2020 presidential election, but Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he won’t be endorsing anyone ahead of November’s proceedings. He feels that announcing his stance publicly causes โ€œan incredible amount of division in our country.”

โ€œThe endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time,โ€ Johnson said in an interview with Fox News on Friday.

โ€œI thought back thenโ€ฆIโ€™m in this position where I have some influence. I felt like that then, itโ€™s my job now to exercise my influence and share this is who Iโ€™m going to endorse,โ€ he said.

The Rock declared his support for President Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 race, which marked the first time the WWE star made a political endorsement. But the People’s Champion made it abundantly clear that history won’t be repeating itself. โ€œAm I going to do that again this year? That answerโ€™s no,โ€ Johnson said in the Fox News interview.

โ€œI also realized that what that caused back then, was something that tears me up in my gut back then and now, which is division. The takeaway after that โ€” months and months and months [later] โ€” I started to realize like, โ€˜Oh man, that caused an incredible amount of division in our country.'”

โ€œSo I realized now going into this election, Iโ€™m not going to do that. I wouldnโ€™t do that because my goal is to bring our country together. I believe in that in my DNA,” he continued.

โ€œIn the spirit of that, thereโ€™s gonna be no endorsement. Not that Iโ€™m afraid of it at all, but itโ€™s just I realize that [at] this level of influence, Iโ€™m going to keep my politics to myself. I think itโ€™s between me and the ballot box.” Even if he won’t be casting a vote himself, Johnson places his trust in the American people to make the right decision.

โ€œBut I will tell you this: while like a lot of us out there are not trusting of all politicians, I do trust the American people. And I trust that whoever they vote for, thatโ€™s going to be my president. And thatโ€™s who Iโ€™m going to support 100%.โ€
