A JRPG could not be considered one if it didn’t include a jaw-dropping dungeon during its first hours, and thankfully, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes features the Northern Runebarrows for players to explore. As part of the main quest, Nowa and friends must venture into this place to look for a Primal Lens. While it all seems like a run-of-the-mill operation, it quickly turns sideways and can be challenging for newcomers to the genre. But with some guidance, tips, and puzzle solutions, you can exit this perilous area in minutes.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes – Northern Runebarrows Treasures and Boss Guide

While not the longest dungeon, the Northern Runebarrows in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes teach players the ropes of dungeon-delving. Initially, it might seem like the usual linear instance, but it has a few collectibles and puzzles you can tackle. Below, we’ll list all the treasures followed by the boss guide.

All Treasure Locations

Let’s start with the first floor of this dungeon. Here, there are four treasures. You can access the first three by solving a few puzzles and progressing normally through this instance. However, for the last one, you need to move on with the story, pass the underground, and then return to the upper floor. Still, here are the locations so you know where to look.

  2. 400 Baqua
  3. 400 Baqua
  4. 2x Revival Medicine

The second treasure set is in the underground part of the dungeon. There are only two chests, and they are quite easy to find. You can use the image below for guidance.

All Puzzle Solutions

During your journey inside the Northern Runebarrows, you’ll get a glimpse of some of the puzzles in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Thankfully, each dungeon has different gimmicks, and the ones for this aren’t too challenging. You just need a good memory to progress.

For the first puzzle, which is entirely optional and leads to obtaining a Tanzaine Ring, you must memorize the buttons you have to press. The order is circle, square, and triangle. If you forget about the order, you can return to the blue orb at any time to see the sequence again.

The second puzzle is mandatory to progress the story, and you can find the terminal with the orb nearby. The gist is the same: you must press the buttons in the same sequence as above. It’ll open the following door and lead you to the underground.

Overall, the exploration of this dungeon isn’t too complicated, but it can be confusing if you’re not familiar with how JRPGs handle puzzles. Beyond this, you can expect a few encounters against small enemies, and after following the story and returning to the starting area, you’ll face the game’s first boss.

Golem Pulverizer Boss Fight

The Golem Pulverizer is the first boss in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and blocks your way out of the Northern Runebarrows. The fight itself isn’t hard but introduces a few new mechanics for players.

During the first phase, you can only control Nowa and Seign. I recommend spamming the Hero Combo skill, as it costs 1 SP and does moderate damage. After a few turns, your party will join you, and phase two will begin.

The second phase is interesting because it introduces the Gimmicks mechanic to players. In this fight, the boss will create rubble across the arena, and players on the lanes on the far right and left can use them to take cover. When the boss charges its attack toward one of the lanes, use the Gimmick skill on those characters to hide behind the rubble. Nowa and Seign won’t have to use this mechanic, so keep spamming the Hero Combo. Use herbs and healing spells if necessary if the fights get tough, but it shouldn’t give you a lot of trouble. After you beat the boss, you’ll obtain a Ruby Ring, increasing a character’s strength by five points. Give it to Garr, Nowa, or Lian.

As the first dungeon in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, I must say I was quite surprised by how deep it was. It does a great job teaching at teaching some of the game’s mechanics, including Hero Combos, Gimmicks, and puzzles, and it sets the stage for what’s coming in this adventure. So, if you have the money, buy a few healing items before delving into this place.
