Burgage Plots in Manor Lords are housing for your serfs. But since you own the land, you can do whatever you want with their homes, like turning them into carrot farms or clothing businesses. To that end, Burgage Plots are more than your typical housing since you can leverage their potential and upgraded ones might even get your kingdom through a tough Winter. Thus, here’s how to upgrade Burgage Plots in Manor Lords.

Simply upgrading Burgage Plots is not exactly expensive, it usually just needs a few building materials. However, before you can do that to the Burgage Plot, there are requirements to be fulfilled, and they’re listed like a checkbox.

You can mouse over each of them to see what’s needed before a particular Burgage Plot is ready for an upgrade. For example, in the image above, the inhabitants of the Burgage Plot still need some clothing materials from the Marketplace. You can also press ‘Tab’ on the keyboard to see what each Burgage Plot is missing as a requirement.

Once you have fulfilled these requirements, you can then upgrade the Burgage Plot to level 2. More requirements will be added onward if you want to keep upgrading. Additionally, higher-level Burgage Plots will need more sophisticated building materials for upgrades.

The reward isn’t just a visual change to the housing; Level 2 Burgage Plots onwards can pay higher taxes and contribute to your Regional Wealth.

Also, take note that you still likely need lower-level Burgage Plots for manual labor and dirty jobs. Your citizens can’t all be Level 2 or Level 3. Currently, the maximum for Burgage Plots is Level 3.

I did mention that Burgage Plots are more than homes, right? You can actually transform some of them into Tailor’s Shops or veggie gardens.

These higher-level Burgage Plot shops can then provide resources for citizens, which in turn, fulfill requirements for further Burgage Plot upgrades. To ensure that you can upgrade your Burgage Plots with an extension, make sure to build them like this, or sometimes bigger/longer:

Add more space so that they can have a Backyard Extension. Certain Backyard Extensions for Burgage Plots can benefit from added space, such as vegetable gardens. Chicken Coops and workshops, on the other hand, don’t need much space.

So while it might be tempting to build Burgage Plots symmetrically like apartments, you’re going to have to make some concessions as some of them work better with bigger Backyard Extensions. Great way to ensure you get the most out of every inch of your land.
