Since itโs establishment, Netflix has grown from a streaming service – similar to Hulu – to a unique entity, mixing old movies, tv shows in with their own Netflix original programming. A large part of the original’s success can arguably be attributed to the Marvel Defenders seriesย Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Now itโs time for the final Defender to tell his story, as Finn Jones is set to star as Iron Fist (Danny Rand) this March.
The first trailer for the chi master reveals Danny Rand origins and how – like almost every other superhero – he was orphaned after a plane crash, where he was the lone survivor in a strange land. While that specific story has been told multiple times through comics – lost Billionaire returns home after being presumed dead, learning the ancient ways of fighting – Jonesโ laid-back portrayal of Rand is a refreshing take on the situation (looking at you Batman and Arrow).

While Rand does seem tamer than most who have gone through this type of transformation, the trailer displays that Iron Fist is no pushover. His unique ability to channel chi into his hands and exhibit superhuman displays of strength could potentially lead to some beautiful choreography, something we know the Marvel series are capable of after Seasons one and two of Daredevil.
Iron Fist will see the return of Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple (The Night Nurse), the only character to appear on each of the shows thus far. ย โI Know what they are, what they can do,โ Temple states in the trailer, โTo fight them we need someone with special skills.โ
The Night Nurse isnโt the only familiar face returning, as blind villain Madam Gao will play a heavy role in the first season. Gao is connected to the Iron Fist villain Steel Serpent, whose seal was visible on the heroin packets, and there is speculation that the veteran villain may be The Crane mother, ruler of K’un-Zi, a mystical city that frequently went at war with K’un-Lun, the home of the first Iron Fist.
Itโll be interesting to see if Iron Fist can stand out from the rest of the origin stories so similar to his own, and how he compliments the other Defenders. For more be sure to check back to the site for our official review!
