How To Farm Yao Guai Materials in Fallout 76 (All Locations)

Approach with caution.

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

To make it big in Appalachia, you must brave its wilds in search of rare materials. Even if you can find some from the comfort of your C.A.M.P, others will require the Vault Dwellers to do some fighting. Of the many dangers you’ll face in Fallout 76, the Yao Guai stand out as ferocious beasts that provide some great loot, which makes knowing their spawn locations paramount. While we are not big fans of facing these creatures, we can’t deny they hold some sweet loot, making each encounter worthwhile.

In Fallout 76, most spawn locations for Yao Guai are fixed, while a few others are randomized. Regardless, you’ll have to search far and wide in the forest of Appalachia to encounter these beasts. Below is a list of each location holding these creatures:

LocationDescription
Site AlphaOne Yao Guai will always spawn outside this location.
Mountainside Bed & BreakfastTwo spawn on the railroad next to the building.
Dolly Sods CampgroundYou can find on the road leading to the camp and one outside.
Monongah OverlookOne will always spawn here.
Graninger FarmThere’s a chance for one Yao Guai to spawn here.
Beckwith FarmThere’s a chance for one Yao Guai to spawn here.
Philippi Battlefield CementeryFixed spawn. You’ll always find one in this location.
The Whitespring ResortThere’s a chance for one to spawn in the gardens.
Seneca Rocks Visitor CenterThere’s a chance for one Yao Guai to spawn here.
Pumpkin HouseYou might encounter one outside of the building. Not a fixed spawn, though.
The Whitespring Golf ClubFixed spawn. Inside the cave in the middle of the course.
Middle Mountain CabinsNot a fixed spawn. One usually spawns around here.

After much exploring, I realized the best location to farm Yao Guai materials in Fallout 76 is outside the Mountainside Bed & Breakfast. Two will always spawn here, and you can kite them around the railroad to avoid getting killed. This is extremely useful if you’re a low-level player.

You might feel farming these creatures isn’t important, but it is. You can get a lot of materials like leather or even nuclear waste, depending on the Yao Guai’s variant. While it might not be the most efficient way to get certain reagents, it is a good way to get experience and even some of the game’s best meat.
