It looks like the world of the caped crusader is a little much for Ben Affleck, who recently stepped down from his role as Director on the new film The Batman. But now it seems like some of his time and effort as a screenwriter may also have been wasted. With news getting out that the script may receive a fresh start when new leadership takes the mantle.

Affleck’s script was supposedly tonally similar to Rocksteady’s 2009 video game Batman: Arkham Asylum and was set to star Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello), The Joker (Jared Leto) and several other familiar faces. However, Affleck was reportedly having issues coping with both Directing and starring in the upcoming DC film after, in just a short period of time, starring in Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, The Accountant, Justice League, and Live By Night. Some of which he also had a role in editing and writing, plus taking on the directing role in Live By Night. Forbes reports that this busy schedule leads to a high amount of frustration and exhaustion.

According to Forbes, the fate of Affleck’s current script will stay unknown until a new director is chosen. Some the current candidates include George Miller (Mad Max), Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Accountant), Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival) and Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic). Although rumor has it that War for the Planet of the Apes’ Matt Reeves is the current frontrunner.
