The Arrow/Flash spinoff series has announced another addition to its mouthwatering cast.

Arthur Darvill will be joining the spinoff series as the, awesomely named, character Rip Hunter.

No one has ever made fun of Rip Hunter's costume... more than once.
Because when you’ve punched the Doctor and got away with it, you get to have a beard that awesome…

Darvill is best known for playing Rory Williams in Doctor who Seasons 5, 6 and 7. Going from timid nurse to badass space/time traveller, Darvill’s character was a fan favourite. But if you think that Darvill’s time travelling days are behind him, guess again.

Rip Hunter is a time travelling hero first invented by DC back in the 50’s. While not the most well known hero, Rip has fought alongside DC titans like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Looking at it that way, Darvill’s casting makes a lot of sense. Darvill is also far from the only former Who actor to show up in the Arrow/Flash universe. John Barrowman plays Malcolm Merlyn, reccuring character and season one big bad. Alex Kingston has also had a reccuring role as Laurel Lance’s mother.

Rip Hunter shows that the CW are really digging into the DC treasure trove to populate theArrow/Flash spinoff. Darvill’s casting comes hot on the heels of the announcement that  Ciara Renée will be joining the series as Hawkgirl.

Hawkgirl, a core cast member of the popular animated Justice League cartoon, demonstrates something. That DC are determined to make their tv shared universe as solid as Marvel’s cinematic one.
