Salma Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. Her father is Lebanese and her mother is Mexican. She recently posed for Vogue Arabia and shared the cover story and accompanying pictures on Instagram for her 28.5 million fans to see. The caption also shares a glimpse into her feelings about her heritage and how she is proud of her roots. But many of her fans are taking issue with what has been said, both by the publication and by Hayek herself.
Fans React To Salma Hayek’s Vogue Arabia Cover
Salma Hayek looks gorgeous in her Vogue Arabia photoshoot and there have been many comments celebrating her. But the caption of the post has also raised eyebrows. “We need global icons who stand for this part of the world, and who speak loud about what it means to be Arab today,” editor-in-chief Manuel Arnaut said of Hayek. “Although she was born in Mexico, Hayek Pinault was raised in the heart of a Lebanese community, of which she seems more proud than ever.”
The caption also shares one of the From Dusk Till Dawn star’s quotes. “Arabs have an almost unmatchable passion for life that is constantly tested. It’s almost because you are confronted with death consistently, you value every little moment of life,” she said. The publication refers to this as “a powerful comment, from a powerful movie icon.” Fans have a lot of thoughts and some people feel that Hayek’s comments suggest she is not proud to be Mexican.
“‘Raised in the heart of a Lebanese community?’ The things one read … Coatzacoalcos Veracruz is in Mexico, not Lebanon,” a fan wrote. “Raised in a Lebanese Community, come on. She was raised in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz, México,” another shared. Others have questioned the statement made by Vogue Arabia, writing, “You’re saying she’s more proud to Arab than Mexican? She’s not Arab. She’s Mexican.” And another comment reads, “No offense but she is Mexican, a proud Mexican.” But are fans reading too much into the comments and making assumptions about what Hayek has allegedly said or not said?!
At present, Salma Hayek has not reacted to the comments about her Vogue Arabia interview.
