Many fans believed that the album would mostly be about the singer’s 6-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, which ended a year before the record was released. However, many of the songs were geared more toward her former fling, The 1975 lead singer Matty Healy. Although Kim Kardashian and Travis Kelce had some songs on the album as well, Healy is allegedly featured heavily.
After her split with Alwyn, Swift was romantically linked to Healy. Although the couple never commented on their relationship, they were spotted out in public together. While the relationship only seemed to last a matter of weeks, it was much more impactful than anyone could have guessed. Of course, this led the singer to write several songs that are thought to be about Healy, such as the title track.

However, it has been reported that Swift and Alwyn parted on good terms and have a lot of love for one another. Perhaps, the singer wanted to keep much of that private since their relationship played out behind closed doors. Either way, fans are certain that she was hurt deeply by Healy.
