If you’re anything like me and tried to snag a pre-order of the Nintendo Switch in the past few weeks, you’re well aware that pre-orders are long gone….everywhere. However, for all you procrastinators, GameStop has your back! This week GameStop announced that they will have a limited supply of Nintendo’s newest console the day it launches.
Much like with other huge releases, GameStop will be having a midnight release event for the console on March 2. The gaming retailer will be offering two pretty sweet bundles the night of the release.

While this is exciting news, I’m sure the pain is still fresh for the many fans who tried to grab the NES Classic consoles Nintendo released last year. If the release of the Switch will be anything similar,ย chances are, the GameStop locations won’t have that many extra consoles to share. When the console pre-orders began at the beginning of the month, the response was immediate. Retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, and many others were sold out of all of their pre-order options within moments. Games and accessory pre-orders do seem to be available on most sites though. Hopefully, the March release will give fans a better chance of retailers receiving consoles quickly versus a holiday release.
Nintendo had the same problem with it’s Wii U release in 2006 with fans on pre-order wait lists all over the country. The Wii U sold over 600,000 units during its launch week, and the Switch is expected to do way more than that. Obviously, as if they had to do much, Nintendo is doing everything they can to hype the release of their new system. Nintendo has made some exciting changes to keep up with the ever-evolving gaming industry.
