The Elseworlds line at DC is getting a bit more bite with the announcement of DC vs. Vampires: World War V. The new series brings writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Otto Schmidt back together. This new story, told over 12 issues, continues the lore built in the best-selling DC vs. Vampires and DC vs. Vampires: All Out War. However, fans are in for an all-new story filled with action, suspense, and the occasional vampire or two.
DC Vs. Vampires: World War V
DC vs. Vampires: World War V kicks off in the dead of winter. All hope for an end to the war between the humans and vampires has been squashed. While the humans, led by Green Arrow and Barbara Gordon’s undead army, were building to peace, Damian Wayne put a quick end to that. Wayne and his guerilla fighters are the only force fighting back against the hordes of vampires. This leaves Green Arrow with a difficult choice. Will he stand with Damian and fight the vampire forces or sacrifice young Wayne to ensure peace?
While World War V builds on the lore already built in the previous series, it promises to bring a whole lot more. Readers can expect to find some reimagined versions of their favorite DC superheroes within this dark and horrifying world. For DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1 series artist Schmidt brings the main cover. However, there are several World War V variants that feature art from Steve Beach, Jae Lee, Riley Rossmo, and Nikola Cizmesija. There is also a foil variant from Homare to collect.
Elseworlds
DC’s Elseworlds imprint brings stories that take place outside of the main DC canon. Stories within this imprint are often set in alternate realities that deviate greatly from the main lore of the universe. For instance, World War V brings the world of bloodsuckers to DC. This allows writers and artists to get a bit crazy with where they take iconic DC heroes and villains. Popular series within this imprint include Gotham Gaslight, Superman: Red Son, and Kingdom Come.
DC vs. Vampires: World War V #1 is on sale 08/14 from DC Comics.
