Blizzard revealed the 24th addition to the Overwatch roster earlier today on their website, an Omnic tank (Fusion Specialist) by the name of Orisa. This introduction comes as quite the surprise, as many speculated a number of different other heroes instead (Athena, Doomfist, Spider Mechs), with no information for the character anywhere to be found before today.

Built by 11-year-old genius Efi Oladele – who crafted it from discarded  OR-15 defense robot parts in Mumbai – Orisa plays a somewhat similar role to Reinhart, defending her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier, with hers being placeable. But unlike the Eichenwalde Knight, the 6th tank in the Overwatch roster can attack from long range with her fusion driver.

Overwatch’s leader and creative vision-holder Jeff Kaplan describe her as an “anchor tank.” “We wanted another tank that teams could build around or position around,” he explained.

Alongside being able to put down a down a protective barrier, she can fortify her own defenses to reduce damage she takes, and cannot be affected by an action-impairing effect. Orisa seems to be a very diverse character – and won’t be entirely too difficult to learn/play sitting at two stars – and seems to have similar abilities to other characters as well.

“My name is Orisa, I will keep you safe. That is my primary function.”

Her graviton charges, which slow and move enemies, are reminiscent of Zarya’s graviton surge, (just slightly less impactful) and her Supercharger ability will boost the damage output of multiple allies at once, similar to Ana’s Ult.

The exact date in which Osira will be patched into the main game has yet to be disclosed, but she is already available to play in the PTR(Public Test Region) on PC. For more information be sure to stay tuned for all of your Overwatch updates and all of your Nerdy News!
