It was pretty disappointing to learn that the Well of Radiance Super won’t be included in the new Prismatic subclass that will be available in Destiny 2‘s The Final Shape expansion, but there’s definitely more disappointment in store. Recently, Bungie did some evaluation on both Well of Radiance and Ward of Dawn to see how they really fit into The Final Shape, and they made some pretty big nerfs to Well of Radiance in an attempt to “push them into more distinct identities.”
When it comes to defensive Warlock Supers, the Well of Radiance, up until recently, was the only real option since it effectively made you and the rest of your Fireteam invulnerable. While that’s awesome, it still leaves other defensive abilities in the dust, making them much less significant.
Bungie’s intentions with the changes being made are to increase the offensive capabilities of the Well of Radiance by boosting Radiance and making it stay for a while longer after you actually leave the bounds of the Well. In addition to this, the defensive output will be decreased by a consider amount in most cases. Let’s take a look at the changes in store for Well of Radiance:
- Well of Radiance:
- Now grants radiant for 8 seconds when players exit the Well of Radiance area.
- Reduced player survivability while standing in the Well of Radiance aura.
- Reduced healing per second from 100 to 50 health points, matching restoration x2.
- Increased heal on cast from 40 to 300 health points.
- Reduced damage resistance vs. non-boss combatants from 40% to 20%.
- Reduced damage resistance vs. boss combatants from 40% to 10%.
- Note: damage resistance vs. enemy players is unchanged.
- Increased maximum Orbs of Power from defeating targets while in your Well of Radiance aura from 4 to 5.
Day 1 Raid racers are going to need some new crutches, and for Warlock mains like myself, it’s time to wake up and move on to my new best friend, Stasis.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
