It’s time to dust off your railgun and rocket jumping skills, as Bethesda released an announcement trailer for a closed Beta for Quake Champions. The beloved PC shooter – illegally installed to many a school lab computers in high schools across the country – returns with a modern iteration, and will give players a chance to play the exclusive Beta before release.

Quake Champions was announced alongside a debut trailer at last year’s E3, featuring a lot of playable characters, each with their own sets of unique skills. The character classes will be a new introduction to the series, as the original revolved simply around weapon pickups.

The teaser displays the classic methods of play style (Rocket Jumping) are still principal parts of the combat. The exact classes are unknown and while there will now be a bit more strategy involved, nothing will beat rail gunning an opponent in mid-air.

Some may be skeptical of a modern port of the classic shooter, especially with the addition of classes, but Bethesda has proved they can take classic and reinvent them into great games, just like they helped do with Doom last year. While Doom was heavily focused on single player, Quake Champions acts as an interesting parallel, obviously revolving around the multiplayer – though it should be interesting to see if they input a single player campaign into the game.

Entry into the Beta is mostly luck, as sign-ups for the highly anticipated Closed Beta for Quake Champions will be based on an E-Mail selection process. Applications for the Beta are now open on the game’s new official site: https://www.quake.com.

No release date on either the game or the Closed Beta has been released as of known, but you can bet your ass we are putting our E-mails into the lottery. Be sure to stay tuned to the site for more Quake Champions news updates and all your other Nerdy News!
