The Doctor may be hundreds of years old, but he’s only been entertaining us Earthlings for a little over 50.ย Doctor Who is currently gearing up for series 10, which will once again feature Peter Capaldi as the twelfth Doctor. It premieres this April, but that’s not the only housewarming gift our favorite timelord has brought us. Set aside your sonic sunglasses for just a moment and get a load of these: three full novels to coincide with the Doctor Who television show’s arrival, each to be published on April 20, 2017.
In Diamond Dogs (not the Metal Gear V kind), the Doctor and Bill arrive on Saturn at a diamond mining facility experiencing an act of sabotage. The protagonists quickly get caught up in the disaster – as usual – and must contend with the accusations against them, as well as something “impossible” slowly rising from beneath the gas clouds below.
Plague City finds the citizens of 1645 Edinburgh living in fear of a mysterious illness and waiting to be claimed the the “Night Doctor.” Phantoms of the dead, and creepy, slithering monsters haunt the living, and it’s up to a certain timelord and his companions to face a horrifying force set to destroy the city.
Tall figures with blank faces and burning, shining eyes are waiting to take people away. To whereย no one knows. They started as a joke that ended up going viral. But no one is laughing now that people have begun disappearing. The Doctor will have to keep a sharp eye out if he hopes to triumph over The Shining Men.
There’s one last tidbit besides the books. Episodes eleven and twelve of the upcoming tenth’s series will feature an enemy practically as old as Doctor Who itself: the Mondasian Cybermen, in their original, first-ever forms. Doctor Who is set to return to the screen this April.
