In their quest for fame, estranged royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could go to ruthless lengths to stay relevant with or without Netflix. Since their royal step back in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have undertaken various projects and interviews, directly or indirectly targeting the royal family. While these exposés have portrayed the duo as victims of the firm-controlled British press, the royal family also have their own reservations, especially in connection to Harry and Meghan.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams in an interview with The Mirror revealed that the royal family no longer trusts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. He attributed this faded trust to the Sussexes’ many exposés on royal life in the last four years.
Their distrust is not unfounded given the numerous shady revelations the controversial pair have made in their 2021 Oprah Interview, the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, countless promotional interviews and the pages of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare combined. These actions dragged the royal family in the mud, threatening its very core. Ultimately, Harry and his wife were “considered to have gone rogue,” losing face within the family. Richard divulged,
“The biggest casualty was trust. It is unsurprising that King Charles and Prince William no longer trust Harry and Meghan.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Expiring Netflix Deal Breeds Further Distrust
While the couple have refrained from revealing interviews or other projects targeting the royal life, there is no telling what comes next. In fact, following his book’s release, the Duke of Sussex confirmed he discarded 400 pages from the book before publication. The content of these pages, yet unknown, clearly has more tea on the royals, suggesting the prince had more stories to share with the world if given the right incentives.
Richard Fitzwilliams believes the expiration of their Netflix contract next year could be the incentive they need to share those pages in another mega anti-royal project. This further puts the royal family on the edge. Richard believed that the royal family’s best bet right now is to hope Netflix renews its deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
“If they lost this contract, with Archewell, their business and charitable foundation, having so few donors, they might well be in financial trouble. Since their exposés of royal life has made megabucks, but little else has made money, the Royal Family better hope that this unpredictable and ruthlessly ambitious couple stays with Netflix.”
As it stands, the streaming giant has reportedly lost interest in the couple given their numerous flopped projects, and failure to put out enough creative shows to wow viewers in years past. Speculations that neither Netflix nor the Sussexes had interest in renewing the deal have also prevailed. If the royal commentator’s assertions were anything to go by, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who currently have their hands full with two new Netflix projects, would soon be fishing for new materials to keep the bucks coming. The British royal family better watch out.
