Gas up your Go Karts, as Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would be getting a Switch port. The announcement came in the form of an Overview trailer, which detailed the similarities and differences between the Wii U version of the game and the upcoming Switch version.

The overview revealed that the port will come fully loaded with all downloadable content from the original version. Link, Isabelle, Splatoon Inklings, Drybones, King Boo and Bowser Jr. join the roster of over 40 characters total for the Switch version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The 48 tracks included in the game are all available from the get-go and is the most ever available in any Mario Kart game ever. Another new addition allows players to hold two items at once – letting them pick one up even if they haven’t used their first one yet – as well as the return of the boo and feather items (exclusive to battle mode).

To account for the difficulty that comes with the newest 200cc class, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will also feature the ability to brake while drifting, offering more control. Steering assist has also been added for newcomers, helping them stay on track especially on difficult maps like Rainbow Road.

Balloon Battles return will bring a lot of fans back, but will test a lot of friendships as well

Most importantly, battle mode makes its triumphant return, with the classic balloon battle mode being joined by a bunch of new game modes. Renegade roundup is a cops and robbers game type, while bomb blast works similarly to balloon battle.

Coin runners and Shine Thief focus on collection and control based objectives, with each still containing battle elements. Each of the game types will have dedicated stages, like Battle Stadium, Luigi’s Mansion and the classic Battle Stage 1 from the SNES version.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Switch port is looking like it’s going to be one the best Mario Karts in ages and will be available April 28th for Switch consoles. For more information be sure to stay tuned to the site for all of your Nerdy News!
