Madonna faces a lawsuit yet again, this time, for putting on a sexy show at her Celebration Tour concert. Last month, two concertgoers sued the 65-year-old for allegedly disrespecting her fans by showing up late to her performances, and causing fans “who had to wake up early the next day for work” to have trouble getting rides home. The lawsuit alleged “false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.” In response, the crooner’s lawyer moved to dismiss the case, arguing that waking up “early the next day for work” isn’t a cognizable injury.
Barely weeks later, the Queen of Pop lands herself an even weirder legal suit. Justen Lipeles, who attended Madonna’s Celebration Tour in California on March 7, 2024, sued the crooner, her promoter, Live Nation and others with affinity to her ongoing tour for a handful of complaints.
Madonna Accused of Disrespecting Fans
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of himself, and other angry fans who attended the California concert, alleged “breach of written contract and negligent misrepresentation.” The defendants also face allegations of “intentional infliction of emotional distress, false advertising, negligence/negligent infliction of emotional distress, and unfair competition,” per the lawsuit.
The aggrieved fan accused Madonna and the promoters of her Celebration Tour, of “purposely and deceptively” withholding crucial information about timing and technicalities while promoting the tour. Thanks to the misleading details on the tour tickets, he arrived at the venue early on the said date eager to catch the 8:30 P.M. concert. However, the show experienced a 90 minute delay, eventually kicking off at 10 P.M.
Additionally, Madonna allegedly demanded for the air conditioning to be turned off, subjecting fans to extreme heat. Justen claimed these conditions left them sweating profusely, eventually becoming physically ill. Even worse, when fans complained about the heat, the singer dismissed their complaints, and allegedly asked them to strip down.
Madonna Sued Over Sexy Celebration Tour Performance
Aside from enduring uncomfortable conditions, fans did not get what they paid for at the Celebration Tour, as Madonna lip-synced to most of the songs. Justen’s lawsuit claimed the money paid to watch Madonna perform live was therefore spent in vain. Further disrespecting her fans, the show imposed an overly sexual performance on the audience without warning. He claimed,
“Forcing consumers to wait hours in hot, uncomfortable arenas and subjecting them to pornography without warning is demonstrative of Madonna’s flippant disrespect for her fans,” Lipeles argued, noting that it felt like he was watching a pornographic film being made.”
Justen admitted to feeling blindsided having to watch “topless women on stage stimulating sex acts.” That, coupled with the other blatant disregard experienced throughout the show, left him distressed. The plaintiff went on to reference Madonna’s history of “disrespecting fans,” citing her 2019 performance in Fillmore, Miami Beach. He demands a jury trial to tackle his lawsuit. The lawsuit also implores the court to grant ticket refunds for him and other aggrieved fans, attorneys fees and unspecified compensatory damages among other monetary settlements.
