Devolver Digital and Pixel Titans have announced that their upcoming 1990s inspired first person shooter Strafe will experience a delayed released date.  As would be expected from a company that refers to Strafe as, “the Best Game Ever Made” the announcement game with some tongue-in-cheek humor.  According to Devolver Digital’s Twitter feed the delay is, “Due to an unforeseen polygon shortage, @STRAFEgame is now coming to PS4 and PC on May 9″. Game director Thom Glunt expanded on the running joke saying, “Strafe requires over 150,000 meticulously placed polygons to create its bleeding-edge graphics. Through an unexpected legal entanglement and a series of clerical errors, nearly 25,000 of those polygons arrived late to Pixel Titans world headquarters thus delaying the game by a few weeks.”

The polygon gag takes on a new humorous meaning with the Devolver Digital team also boasting that Strafe features, “breathtaking photorealistic graphics” or at least as close as you could come in the 1990s when the likes of Doom and Duke Nuke’Em ruled the genre. They continue that the “persistent gore that allows you to paint levels red with the excessive entrails of your enemies. As a Scraper on an impossibly dangerous mission at the edge of the galaxy, you only have one life to navigate all the nightmarish terrains of Strafe. When you die, nothing will ever be the same again.”

The delay in Strafe is minimal compared to some other game delays in the industry.  It was expected to originally have a March 28th, 2017 release date on PS4 and PC.  The new date means that gamers will have to only wait an additional six weeks to start the carnage.  The new release date announcement also can with a video featuring multiple alien heads exploding and the new release date of May 9th written on a bloody wall. Better get that rain coat before May 9th!
