Prometheus may have rubbed some fans of the Alien franchise the wrong way. Obviously, standing up to one of the best horror films of all time (Ridley Scott’s original masterpiece, Alien) and one of the greatest action movies of all time (the sequel, Aliens) is a tall order. Scott hopes to return the franchise to greatness with his upcoming Alien: Covenant. A few weeks ago, we saw the first official trailer for the next film in the series, and we now have an extremely cool poster to go along with it. Check out the full poster below, clearly inspired by Dante’s The Inferno:

Beautiful and terrifying.

Pretty cool, right? The xenomorphs twisted together with several unlucky humans (each, of course, already unknowingly playing host to a little baby xenomorph through the attached facehuggers) form a terrifying image. But, like much of the architecture featured in the franchise, there is a strange allure to the image as well. The film’s official Twitter account published the image, and they also reiterated the film’s tagline, releasing the message “The path to paradise begins in hell” alongside it:

Alien: Covenant follows a crew of a spaceship discovering a planet they believe to be paradise, only to discover (surprise!) it isn’t, as the monstrous xenomorphs make themselves known after the crew has landed. The film then follows the crew’s desperate attempt to escape before they are killed off by the galaxy’s most frightening creature.

Ridley Scott is back to direct this sequel, as is Michael Fassbender, who is reprising his role as David from Prometheus. Also featured in the film are James Franco, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Billy Crudup, and Danny McBride. Alien: Covenant is scheduled to release on May 19, 2017.

Excited to see the next film in the Alien franchise? What do you think about the new poster and the direction of the film in general? Let us know in the comments below.
