The Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will soon be undergoing a little renovation. Well, a big renovation. In cooperation with Allied Esports and Esports Arena, the business will introduce esports into the mix, transforming Luxor into the world’s primary location for competitive digital entertainment. And when they say the world, they mean it – multiple stories, a massive stage, telescopic seating, streaming and production studios, video walls, and tons of food and drinks (naturally). They’re pulling out all the stops and sparing no expense on this one to make that statement a reality, and they’ve certainly picked a prime location.

When Jud Hannigan, Allied Esports International’s CEO, learned that Luxor was an option, he jumped at the chance. “Just as Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden and Wembley Stadium are considered their sports’ most aspirational venues by players and fans alike, Esports Arena Las Vegas will be the iconic destination in esports…” Luxor general manager Niklas Rytterstrom is just as enthusiastic, saying “Our company is the leader in the entertainment industry and recognizes the exciting growth in esports. With this partnership, we will introduce a new experience to the market, once again elevating the city’s vast entertainment offerings.” The arena will officially open in 2018.

Esports Arena isn’t just looking at economic expansion in the competitive world, it’s got plans for the players as well. Over the next few years, in addition to opening several new locations, the company will be focusing on things such as providing financial support and a clearer career path to said players, removing sponsor barriers and aiding in building team relations. After all, you can’t have a competitive sport – digital or otherwise – without the sportsmen and women who engage in it. This is big news for the competitive scene and gaming at large, and there’s pretty much only one thing that can be said about it: Vegas, baby!

Keep your eyes on The Nerd Stash, there’s plenty more where that came from. Remember to tip your waitresses, we’re here all week.
