We Killed the Witness, now Destiny 2 is Killing the Timegate

All it took to get rid of timegating was defeating Destiny’s biggest foe

There’s nothing more frustrating to a Guardian than hopping onto Destiny 2 on the first day of a new Season or Episode and flying through the new content, only to realize that all the content is locked behind a dreaded timegate and you’ll be waiting a while before you can move forward. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who likes to get stuff done right away, and I’m always disappointed when I have to wait an entire week for the next set of season quest steps to drop. During the Echoes: Act II stream that Bungie put on for us, we learned that time gating will be a thing of the past in Destiny 2.

If you’ve been playing for a while, then you probably remember a while back when Bungie told us that they would get rid of their atrocious concept of timegating and allow us to play through the Episodes that began after The Final Shape at our own pace. However, now that Episode: Echoes Act I is ending, we found out the hard way pretty quickly that it was a load of bull. Really. I can’t be the only one who was super disappointed when I came to the end of Week 1’s quest steps and realized I still had to wait a whole week to move forward.

Luckily, beginning in Echoes: Act II, the timegate will be no more. After ten years of Destiny, the most annoying feature in the game will finally be eliminated, and we’ll be able to play through each Episode Act from here on out at our own pace and play either as much or as little as we want in a single sitting. Personally, I couldn’t be happier, but we’ll see what the future brings.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things โ€œgeekโ€. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you canโ€™t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
