LeBron James is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. However, the 39-year-oldโs career may be coming to an end very soon. Despite still putting up crazy numbers, LBJ is not sure if he wants to sign another NBA contract. Bron recently got a new 2-year contract extension for $101 million with the Los Angeles Lakers. The contract also has a player option and a no-trade clause. Fans could be seeing the final year of the LeBron James era.
Recently, Jamesโ oldest son, Bronny James, was drafted by the Lakers. This completes LeBron’s lifelong goal of playing in the NBA with his son. After they play at least one season together, James can opt out of his contract with LA. He could then sign a new deal to stay, become a free agent, and go to another team, or just retire.

“I mean, it could be [the last contract I will ever sign],” James said. “I’d never sit up here and say, ‘Oh, maybe not.’ Yeah, it could be. Easily. But we’ll see what happens.”
If LeBron James plays out the rest of his contract, he will surpass Hall of Famer Vince Carter for the most seasons played by an NBA player, at 23 seasons, as reported by Bleacher Report. This would not be the first record set by James in his legendary career.
He is already the NBAโs all-time leading scorer. He was also part of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, who overcame a three games to one deficit in the 2016 NBA Finals to win the franchise’s first championship.
All of that was with four MVP awards, four Finals MVP awards, four championships with three different franchises, and three all-star game MVP awards. LeBron James is a different breed of basketball player. If this upcoming season is, in fact, his last, then there will be a huge hole in all of basketball for many years to come.
