After So Much Teasing, No Man’s Sky Gets a Revamp in Its Worlds Update

Just take our money already, Sean

I’ve often felt compelled to stop giving money to certain video games, but Hello Games makes me feel the opposite: I’d be happy paying for all these major patches. Almost a decade after its release, No Man’s Sky keeps giving us fantastic updates such as Worlds – Part 1. If you didn’t know, beloved game developer Sean Murray started posting the usual cryptic messages on his X (formerly known as Twitter) profile. Players quickly took on the wild goose chase and came up with wild conspiracy theories. Many thought it’d be something related to Light No Fire, and others even joked about a possible $25 battle pass (God help us). But no, what we got was an update that revamps planets in NMS and more.

The patch notes are extremely long to list here, so we’ll link you to the game’s website. Still, we’ll go over some of the major changes, which are even more than anyone anticipated. First and foremost, a universe refresh, or in other words, the planetary revamp. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that after discovering so many planets, a few felt repetitive. Not anymore, my fellow explorers. No Man’s Sky has revamped almost all planets in the Worlds update. Players can now find floating islands, new planetary hazards, and more. This is a feature that many fans have been requesting for a long time, and it’s finally here. Alongside the planet revamp, we also have a new bug-themed expedition, and to help you torch some bugs, your mech gets a flamethrower. Helldivers would be proud!

One thing that has sent fans into a speculation spree is if this update might be a way to beta test some features coming to Light No Fire. As you know, Hello Games’ next venture will simulate an actual planet. So, with all the revamping in No Man’s Sky, its graphical updates, and other features, that theory isn’t too crazy. Yet, we’re just imagining things, and nothing’s set in stone. In the meantime, though, players can jump into this brand-new update, which, believe it or not, is a two-parter, so we can expect more surprises down the road.
