The next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will see the return of a beloved feature introduced in a previous installment. Assassin’s Creed: Origins will once again raise its sails, a naval combat will play a key role in the game.
Introduced in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, naval combat quickly became a fan favorite, as gamers were able to live their pirating dreams vicariously through the game without getting scurvy or sea sick. While it was featured in other games, the sailing aspect of the franchise was notably – and understandably – absent from the latest title Syndicate.
Combine that with the change in annual release strategy – going from releasing every year to every other year – it’s been a while since fans have been able to roam the high seas. Personally, I’ve missed the Shanties the most.
The feature was confirmed after Eurogamer verified the authenticity of images posted on Reddit earlier this week. Alongside the naval combat, the leak unveiled Assassin’s Creed: Origins setting as well.
At the top left corner of the image, there is a mission titled “Follow Shadya to Khenut’s Villa.” History buffs know that Khenut was the Queen of Egypt during her husband’s (King Unas) reign from 2375 – 2345 BC, so we also know the time period as well.
While every other game in the franchise has moved forward in time from the previous installment – regarding flashback features obviously – Assassin’s Creed: Origins will be the first to break that trend. Interesting, this direction fits with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s plans to possibly reset the franchise, as well as reports that indicate the new game will be a prequel.
While the title, setting, and some features are confirmed, no release date has been set for Assassin’s Creed: Origin quite yet. For more information, be sure check back to the site regularly for updates on the upcoming game as well as all of your other Nerdy News!
