The 2024 Summer Olympics has been an interesting event that has not been without its criticism, but Team USA has been doing well. Some athletes who have taken home gold include the women’s gymnastic team, Bobby Finke for men’s 1500m freestyle, Scottie Scheffler for gold, and Noah Lyle for the men’s 100m final. Team USA shotputter Payton Otterdahl did not take home a gold medal (having finished fourth), but he took home something else: a fiancee.
The excited athlete posted a special message on his Instagram on Sunday evening. He revealed to fans that while in the City of Love and in front of the Eiffel Tower, he proposed to his girlfriend, Maddy Nilles. “Meanwhile, in the City of Love…I love you forever, Maddy Nilles!” he captioned a photo of them from the moment, including one picture of himself holding the ring box and another kissing.
Team USA Shotputter Payton Otterdahl Gets Engaged
Fans have reacted to the message with great excitement and wished Payton Otterdahl and Maddy Nilles congratulations on their relationship milestone. “Congrats! THAT is the real medal my man!” a fan wrote. Another agreed, writing, “You just won your gold medal! It will last a lifetime!”
“AMAZING!!!!!!! Absolutely amazing congrats you two!!!! Sooo happy for you both,” another fan shared. Other comments include, “Awwwww I love this so much!!! Congratulations!!,” “Congrats you guys!!! We love you both!!!” and “You’re joking!!!! This is the best news!!! A legendary weekend for you guys. Congrats, and cheers!”
Otterdahl may not have taken home the gold medal in his sport, but his teammate did. Ryan Crouser won the gold, and Joe Kovacs won the silver, making this an exceptional all-around win for Team USA. And, as we and Olympic fans have said, leaving the 2024 Olympics as an engaged man is a pretty big deal.
