Speedrun Fast: TMNT: Turtles in Time

Teenage mutant ninja turtles, teenage mutant ninja turtles, teenage mutant ninja turtles! Heroes in a half-shell! Turtle power! Welcome to Speedrun Fast. Hope you have your pizzas ready because this time we’re all about the good old TMNT. Turtles in Time was released for arcade systems in 1991 and was eventually remastered by Ubisoft for PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s one of the better-known games and one of the most celebrated as well, and since there are two versions of it, why not show two speedruns? Yup, you’re getting TMNT 4 in both its original and updated versions. Naturally, we’ll start with the arcade.

This run is performed by HDL with a time of 21:35. He’s playing the European version, the “most fair and consistently beatable on 1 credit,” according to the video description. It’s not the world record run – that honor belongs to Sinister1 on hard mode in a lightning-fast 18 minutes on SNES. It’s still a fine run to see, and you won’t be bored with all the stage variety and crazy action going on, not to mention the silly quotes. As far as gameplay goes, TMNT 4 is a straightforward beat-em-up, so it’s simply a matter of knowing enemy patterns to win.

TheGamerPowas takes us through the remake in 47 minutes, much longer than the arcade run takes. The world record for TMNT Re-Shelled is done in a little over half an hour but was submitted in two parts instead of one complete video. The biggest changes you’ll see are the backgrounds and the combat, which is a tad more fluid but slower as a result, with seemingly smaller hitboxes on the enemies. And did that wrecking ball just miss Leo even though it landed exactly on his head?
