Anya Taylor-Joy faced backlash for her style choice as she opted to rock the sheer trend last winter. In January 2023, The Queen’s Gambit actress slipped her lithe figure into a stunning dress, opting for regal golds and heavy embellishments as she stepped out in L.A.
Showing off her night-time look for the Critics Choice Awards, Anya turned heads in her strappy midi number, but for some, the see-through finish just wasn’t necessary. Users seeing the photos on The Daily Mail didn’t unanimously slam Anya, but many raised eyebrows over the sheer fabrics, with one fan gaining likes for saying that it wasn’t “respectable.”
Anya Taylor-Joy Shows Off Sheer Style In Glam Dress
Drawing the eye to her slender figure, Anya dropped jaws as she channeled old-school elegance in a sleeveless gold dress with a tight bodice feeding into a ballroom skirt.
Flaunting her tiny waist as her structured, strappy top clung to her frame, the 28-year-old looked like a total doll in her patterned gown, but with a see-through finish, she was upping the ante. Showing a little chest and teaming her gown with a tan pair of undies beneath, Anya kept safe, but she still garnered negative remarks.
Dolling herself up with her blonde locks swept up and a full face of makeup, Anya kept glam with matte foundation that brought out her delicate features, also sporting champagne-colored eyeshadow, a rosy lip, plus a dark brow. The Hollywood star had naturally chosen a look from the Dior brand she fronts.
Fans Saying See-Through Dress Wasn’t Necessary
Topping The Daily Mail‘s comments section is a fan who gained over 100 likes for saying “There is no reason for this dress to be sheer. What could have been cute now looks terribly cheap.”
Noting the high-end designer behind Anya’s look, a further fan proved disappointed as they said: “Dior it might be, but it looks like net curtains needing a good wash. Not respectable at all.” One user even called Anya’s dress “hideous,” with a further fan frowning as they said:
“I don’t see the point in the dress being see-through. She would’ve come off as a blonde Audrey Hepburn if only her dress wasn’t the [unclothed] look.”
Anya is fast rising as a fashion icon. Earlier this year, she turned heads in a corset-style minidress by Mugler. Meanwhile, her recent Wimbledon appearances brought outfits from designers Versace and Giorgio Armani. The A-lister is also signed to classic designer Jaeger Couture, joining the long list of stars now fronting major designers.
