Sony might be holding a State of Play event next month which might host the next PlayStation console’s reveal. According to Jeff Grubb on Giant bomb’s Big Mess Mornings, the end of September will likely see a Sony State of Play event and could possibly reveal the PlayStation 5 Pro. The rumor was discussed in the podcast when discussing the PS5 Pro and when its release date might arrive.

Unfortunately, we can only guess what else will be shown at the event, but if the PlayStation 5 Pro reveal does come to pass in September’s State of Play, then some video game reveals are likely to happen alongside it. Sony already announced during its 2024 earnings call that this year will be slow for the console in terms of sales because no major games are being planned for release after Q1 of 2024.

During Gamescom 2024, many developers talked about the improved Sony PS5 Pro and how it is close to reveal and an announcement of its release date. Leaks are very unlikely to happen within Sony anymore because the company has heavily segregated departments to limit information leaks. But the timing makes a lot of sense since this will allow Sony to have a follow-up showing on September 26, during the Tokyo Game Show.

Sony was initially expecting a fairly lax year in 2024, with some big games being planned for 2025. This couldn’t be further from the truth as the release of Black Myth: Wukong has turned that expectation on its head. The explosive release of the game in China has resulted in such a rise in sales that even the biggest outlets are finding it impossible to meet customer demands. This has even resulted in the return of the scalpers, and no, that is not a sequel anyone wanted to see.
