Sonic’s the name, speed’s his game. With Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces visible on the horizon, the blue blur is set to make a return to greatness, and he’s bringing a little gift. First 4 Figures has an entire three statue categories dedicated to the hedgehog and his menagerie of pals – classic, modern, and diorama lines, and the latest collectible slides into the third one. In honor of his 25th anniversary, First 4 unveiled their new Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary statue. They even released a video documentary of the figure’s creation, and it’s more than just a few comments and a montage of angle shots – it’s a full-blown hour-and-twenty-minute showcase.
The statue features Sonic in his classic look, speeding past the goal sign of Green Hill Zone. You can tell the figure is quite sizable just from comparing it to the team. The hedgehog is brightly colored and easily the most prominent element of the work, while the goal sign sports a small number 25 to acknowledge the series’s milestone. Incredible attention to detail is evident in the grass and dirt upon which Sonic speeds along – it almost looks as if the grass might be real (well, if not for the cartoony patchwork, that is). The entire ensemble has a perfect commemorative, photographic feel to it as if the crew was reenacting Green Hill Zone in celebration of their achievements.
Pre-orders for the statue will open on June 6, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. PT and 11:00 a.m. ET on First 4’s official website. Given the size and quality of the product, it should be no surprise that this baby doesn’t come cheap – it will set buyers back $385, making it tied for second place with exclusive Silver among the company’s most expensive Sonic series statues. First place? That goes to… Dr. Robotnik classic?!
