Vocaloid fans might want to book the next flight to Japan because virtual reality pop star Miku Hatsune is taking over Shibuya’s Marui shopping center for an entire month starting next week. Called the Hatsune Miku Summer Festival, the event kicks off with brand new visual styles for the blue-haired singer and her mates, available in purchasable prints. The stream of merchandise continues from there with all sorts of accessories and memorabilia, from foldable fans to wearable apparel. A lot of this stuff is exclusive to the event, and we’re going to see a bunch of new brands collaborating to produce new Vocaloid goods.
Marui is a well-known department store chain in Shibuya. It caters mostly to more mature women with a selection of jewelry and clothes, however, the particular store hosting the event also offers products geared toward younger audiences. Still, seems kind of a random spot to hold a Vocaloid party. Brand name Artemis Kings stands among one of the key collaborators, not only for the merchandise but for planning the event itself. Different exhibitions and meet-and-greets will be held on different days, so if you do get to attend, pay close attention to the schedule.
The Hatsune Miku Summer Festival will begin on June 23 (Friday) and end on July 24 (a Monday) on Marui’s eighth-floor exhibition space. Naturally, though it’s named after Miku, fans will get to see plenty of Rin, Len, Luka, Kaito, and Meiko as well, all sporting new looks for the summer (cough swimsuits cough).
